Title : Age is just a Number: Identification and optimizing the High Risk Surgical Patient

Abstract:

The “High Risk” Surgical patient consumes a significant proportion of surgical and perioperative resources.  High risk patients underpin the concept of perioperative medicine.  The first part of this talk discusses identification of such patients.  The second part talks about evidence based strategies to optimize such patients to potentially improve surgical outcomes

Biography:

Dr Ramanathan (Nathan for short) Kasivisvanathan is the Head of the Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine at the Royal Marsden, an international cancer centre based in London.  He has a strong interest in perioperative medicine and has a diverse range of research interests being published in numerous areas of perioperative medicine including “High Risk Patient”; Blood transfusion, Analgesia for major surgery.
