Title : Risk factors associated with the occurrence of surgical site infections in patients operated for acute abdomen at state university hospital of Haiti from January 2018 to december 2020
Abstract:
Background- This study’s objective is to analyze the different risk factors associated with the
occurrence of surgical site infections (SSI) in patients operated for acute abdomen at State
University hospital of Haiti from January 2018 to December 2020.
Methods.- This is a unmatched case-control study. Were included: patients who had undergone
surgery for acute abdomen and had developed a SSI. By measuring the association between each
risk factor and the occurrence of SSI, their implication in the occurrence of SSI has been
determined.
Results - Of the thirteen risk factors identified, in the 87 files selected, a high incidence (25.29%)
of SSIs was associated with the following risk factors: anemia, duration of interventions, NNIS
index and reintervention.
Conclusion - Anemia, duration of interventions, NNIS index and reintervention were the main
risk factors strongly associated with the occurrence of SSI.
