Frenuloplasty is a surgical procedure designed to address issues related to the frenulum, a small fold of tissue found in various parts of the body, notably in the mouth or genital region. Commonly performed on the frenulum under the tongue (lingual frenulum) or the penile frenulum, this procedure aims to address problems caused by a tight or restrictive frenulum. In the case of lingual frenulum issues (also known as tongue-tie), a tight frenulum can restrict the movement of the tongue, leading to difficulties in speaking, eating, or breastfeeding in infants. Frenuloplasty involves making an incision or releasing the tight band of tissue to improve tongue mobility and alleviate associated problems. Similarly, in the context of the penile frenulum, a tight or short frenulum can cause discomfort during erection or sexual activity, leading to pain or even penile curvature. Frenuloplasty in this scenario involves carefully releasing or lengthening the frenulum to reduce tension and enhance comfort during sexual intercourse. This surgical procedure is typically conducted under local anesthesia and is considered a relatively straightforward and low-risk operation with minimal complications. However, as with any surgical intervention, there might be risks such as bleeding, infection, or scarring. Post-procedure, patients are often advised to follow specific care instructions to promote healing and prevent complications. Recovery is generally quick, and patients can typically resume their normal activities within a few days, experiencing improved functionality and reduced discomfort in the affected area.
