Otorhinolaryngology (ORL) is a surgical specialist of medicine that deals with the surgical and medicinal therapy of disorders of the head and neck. It is also known as otolaryngology - head and neck surgery, or ear, nose, and throat (ENT). Otorhinolaryngologists, otolaryngologists, head and neck surgeons, or ENT surgeons or physicians are doctors who specialize in this field. For conditions affecting the ear, nose, throat, base of the skull, head, and neck, patients seek treatment from an otorhinolaryngologist. Functional diseases that impact the senses and actions of eating, drinking, speaking, breathing, swallowing, and hearing are among the most frequent. ENT surgery also includes the surgical treatment and reconstruction of malignancies and benign tumours of the head and neck, as well as facial and neck plastic surgery. An otolaryngologist is a doctor who specializes in the treatment of ear, nose, and throat disorders, as well as head and neck surgery. Otolaryngology (also known as otorhinolaryngology) specialists have been organized in the United States since 1896, making it the oldest medical speciality in the country. An otolaryngologist is also a surgeon in addition to being a medical doctor. That means they can help cure diseases affecting the delicate tissues of the ears, nose, and throat by performing surgeries.
